 1-Natural Environment:

The country covers a total area of 706 550 km2, including the Western Sahara is 266 779 km2. It is in Morocco that we find the plains the largest and highest mountains in North Africa. The topography of the country is marked by four major systems: the Rif, the Middle Atlas, the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas.
The Mediterranean shores are dominated by the Rif, a low mountain range, 1 000 m on average, but 2450 m at Jebel Tidirhine, recovering from east to west
In the south, a depression, between the Rif a chain folded, the Middle Atlas, which exceeds 3 000 m, while a central plateau realizes the transition with rich coastal plains that are home settlement.
We meet in the west of the reliefs with karst dolines, which sometimes form lakes. The former volcanic activity has given birth to lakes craters as the Sidi Ali.
The High Atlas, which also extends to Algeria, culminates at 4 165 m in the Jebel Toubkal, south of Marrakech, he succeeded in the Middle Atlas according to an alignment north-east south-west and extends to the Atlantic , Where it connects to the Anti Atlas, the southernmost mountain Moroccan by the massive volcanic origin of Jebel If roua (3 300 m).
This rugged ridge, formed by young mountains, plateaus and separates the green and fertile plains of the Sahara wadis drained and dry

2 - Hydrography:

Although sprinkled with persistent snow on the highest summits, the Atlas gives birth to many rivers whose water is used for irrigation and feeding of several small hydroelectric plants. These rivers are rivers such as the Moulouya (450 km), which empties into the Mediterranean, or Sebou (500 Km), which empties into the Atlantic.

The nature of the rugged terrain and the regime of rains make rivers of Morocco little waterways. Thus, the Sebou is the only waterway in the country, but only in the last part of its course, until Kenitra (17 km), while the Umm er-Rebia (600 km), the main river of Morocco, which runs from east to west along the slope Saharan waters and a line of oases, is unfit for navigation.

The flash floods and uncontrolled spring or autumn supply of groundwater that are live, the rest of the year, people set on eminences. At the extreme south-east, the wadis and Ziz Rhéris, disembarked from the Atlas, get lost in the desert sands.

3 - Climate:

Morocco is subject to the contrasting influences of the Mediterranean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Sahara on reliefs whose western part receives rain ocean, while summits act as barriers. The coastal plains are the same latitude as oases in the Algerian Sahara; rich and fertile in the North, they are influenced by the desert in their southern part from Essaouira (Mogador) and especially Agadir.

In the North, the climate is Mediterranean-type tempered by the influence of the sea with cold winters in altitude and rainfall of 800 mm surrounding the annual North Atlantic side. In Essaouira, annual mean temperatures range from 16.4 degrees in January and 22.5 degrees in August. Within the land, the winters are cool and summers hotter. Thus, in Fez, temperatures range from 10 degrees C in January to 26.9 degrees in August. In the Atlas, it is not uncommon to find winter temperatures below - 17.8 ° C, and snowy peaks are almost all year.

The rainy season is the winter months. Precipitation is important in the North-West and lowest in East and South, especially on the eastern foothills of the Atlas. The average annual rainfall ranging from 860 mm to 430 mm Tangier and Casablanca, Essaouira 280 mm and 130 mm in the Sahara.

4-Flora and fauna:

Morocco is the country most wooded Maghreb. The mountainous regions oriented Atlantic are covered with forests (9.8 per 100 of the territory), including large tracts of cork oaks, oaks, juniper, cedar, fir and pine trees that benefit from rains of autumn and winter, but droughts, more and longer in the South, this fragile vegetation subjected to fire, cutting and soil erosion. The farmland occupy almost all the plains; Moreover, the maquis predominates.
In the plain of Sub, near the southern border, there is a vast forest arganiers, thorny endemic to North Africa. The vegetation in the valleys Wadi présahariens is identical to that of the arid region, in the oasis, vegetable crops and fruit trees thrive in the shade of date palms
Morocco, at the crossroads of Europe and Africa, has a diverse wildlife. The Roman mosaics of Volubilis testify to the presence of elephants, now missing, and lions, whose last specimens were still living in the Atlas in the nineteenth century. There are still some species such as foxes, rabbits, otters and squirrels, but the gazelle, warthogs, the panther, baboons and horned viper
